charles amos
Chapter Organizer | New Orleans
Charles was born in New Orleans and was a self-admitted troublemaker as a kid, getting arrested as early as 10 years old. This path escalated and Charles ultimately was incarcerated for 28 years at Louisiana State Penitentiary. There he educated himself so that he wouldn’t be the same person he was before incarceration. During this period, he joined the Angola Special Civic Project as a member working alongside Norris and Checo drafting bills to change laws on the outside. Charles also received a bachelor's degree in Christian Ministry from the New Orleans Theological Seminary.
Charles got out in 2022 – though he had a pardon signature from Governor John Bel Edwards, it was DA Jason William’s office that worked on his release using 930.10. Once released, Charles quickly joined forces with VOTE. He now works as a Chapter Organizer focused on registering people in the community to vote and informing them of their civic duties. Charles was able to vote for the first time after coming home and is passionate about helping other formerly incarcerated people (FIP) cast their ballot. Charles is also an Ambassador for the Visiting Room Project (TVRP). TVRP began as a digital experience to allow the public to sit face-to-face with people in Louisiana serving life without parole (LWOP) to hear them tell their stories, in their own words.
Charles loves writing poetry, any type of exercise and sports, reading, and living life in color.
